Buddy Poppies
Monday is Memorial Day. On Friday, several veterans handed out Buddy Poppy flowers to people in West Alabama.
The volunteers, from the Cottondale, Ala. VFW Post 6022, distributed then Friday morning and afternoon at the Winn-Dixie Store at McFarland Blvd. and Watermelon Rd. in Northport and at the Winn-Dixie at 5-Points on Tuscaloosa's east side. They will be back out there Saturday, too. Money raised from giving out these flowers helps disabled veterans. ...Read more

ATMORE, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's longest serving death row inmate has been executed by lethal injection for the 1976 kidnapping, rape and murder of a young convenience store clerk.
