1964 Barons
BIRMINGHAM (WVUA) - Former Birmingham Baron, Larry Colton says in 1964, there were no black police officers in the city.
But it was that year that the Barons broke color barriers in Alabama.
Colton wrote about the experience in a new book, "Southern Leagues", which is officially on bookstore shelves.
It was a time for baseball stories and catching up.

BIRMINGHAM (WVUA) - Wednesday was a nice day for some baseball.
The Birmingham Barons are once again back in the magic city and the first pitch in their brand new ballpark Wednesday night
It was an electric atmosphere all night at regions field in Downtown Birmingham and the fans were glad to see baseball back in town.

BIRMINGHAM (WVUA) - Wednesday is opening day for the new Regions Field in Downtown Birmingham.
A ribbon cutting is planned for 4:30 p.m. with officials from around the state and the City of Birmingham, including Governor Robert Bentley.

First pitch in the new stadium is set for 7:05 p.m. against the Mississippi Braves.

Rookie DL Dareus puts charge in Bills pass-rush
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - Marcell Dareus is all smiles now that the rookie defensive lineman has put the charge back in the Buffalo Bills pass rush. The first-round pick out of Alabama was busy back-slapping teammates and flashing a toothy grin among reporters Monday, a day after the sack-happy Bills' 23-0 win over the Washington Redskins. Dareus had 2 1/2 of Buffalo's nine sacks in helping the team improve to 5-2 heading into an AFC East showdown against the New York Jets (4-3) this weekend. ...Read more
