New UA President
TUSCALOOSA - (WVUA) - The University of Alabama Board of Trustees announced this afternoon that Judy Bonner will be the next President of the University of Alabama. The Board accepted the resignation of Dr. Guy Bailey earlier in the day.
"I am pleased to announce to you that I recommend Judy Bonner as the next President of the University of Alabama." UA Chancellor Robert Witt recommended that Bonner be named the next president.
"Thank you for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to working with this board. We will continue to progress that we have made of the past ten years. We will work with students, faculty and staff to continue the progress at the University," Bonner said. Bonner is the first female to serve as president of the University.
Both Bonner and Witt released statements following the decision.
"I am pleased to announce that Dr. Judy Bonner has been unanimously elected president of The University of Alabama effective immediately. Having had the pleasure of working with Dr. Bonner for the last ten years, I can say firsthand that she is one of the most intelligent, well-focused and forward-thinking academic administrators in the nation. She began her career at the Capstone in 1981 and has achieved the highest measure of excellence as a faculty member, department chair, dean, executive vice president and provost, and most recently as interim president. Please join me in congratulating President Bonner on her election. She is a tremendous asset to The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama System, and the state of Alabama."
We will have more on this developing story tonight on WVUA News at 4, 5, 6 & 10.
