Non-Lethal Force

May 1, 2010 - 10:14pm

Officers with the Tuscaloosa Police Department used non-lethal force during the wee hours of the morning to subdue a woman they say was endangering herself.  Officers told WVUA News they responded to the 600 block of 19th Street around 2 a.m. Saturday. Once there, they found a Hispanic woman suffering from slashed wrists. Officers said the woman was holding a butcher knife to her own neck.

Police then used a shotgun-like weapon that fires bean bags to subdue the bleeding woman after attempts to talk her down failed, saving her life.  Officers were then able to take the woman into custody, and transport her to DCH Regional Medical Center, where her injuries were treated and are no longer life threatening.
