WVUA is following a developing story from McCalla. Tuscaloosa County Authorities are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found at a gravel pit.
31 year old Amanda Ressler was found Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. at the gravel pit on Dream Lake Road. Lieutenant Kip Hart says they believe foul play may be a possibility. Around the time of the discovery, Hart says Ressler's family reported her missing to Hoover Police. ...Read more

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A federal jury has convicted Jesse Mae Brown Pollard of kidnapping a 6-year-old relative to pressure the girl's mother in a dispute over a piece of land and a portable storage shed in east Mississippi.
The jury on Thursday convicted Pollard, a former teacher and basketball coach, of conspiracy, kidnapping and obstruction in U.S. District Court in Jackson. ...Read more
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The agent for coach Nick Saban told Texas officials in January that Texas was the only school he would consider leaving Alabama for and that his success with the Crimson Tide had put him under "special pressure," The Associated Press has learned.
The agent, Jimmy Sexton, made the comments during a 45-minute call with former Texas Regent Tom Hicks and current Regent Wallace Hall. Hicks detailed the call in a Sept. 24 email that was obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press through an open-records request. ...Read more
BIRMINGHAM -- Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport resumed operations Sunday night after an employee found a suspicious note alluding to a possible explosive device in the area.
The airport was shutdown and evacuated for at least an hour as a precaution.
The Birmingham Police Department brought in K9 units to sweep the area. They found no devices, and the airport was reopened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Around 500 passengers on 12 flights were either diverted or grounded during the ordeal. ...Read more
CENTREVILLE, Ala. (WVUA) - A jury has found Jody Byrd guilty of murdering his wife Desta Byrd in 1999.
Prosecutors said Jody Byrd fatally shot his wife on February 25, 1999 at their home in Bibb County.
The case went unsolved for nearly 15 years, but authorities arrested Byrd in 2011 after a publicity campaign mounted by friends and relatives of his wife.
The man told police he found her body outside their home after he got home from work. ...Read more
