On Wednesday, a Moundville man received his sentence for firing a bullet that struck and killed a University of Alabama graduate student.
23-year-old Rickey Crooks confessed to firing shots at Anthony Knox during an argument at the gas station, and one of those struck Trey Johnson, who was caught in the crossfire.
Crooks was sentenced to 20 years for manslaughter, 20 years for firing into an occupied building and avoided a life sentence by getting 30 years for attempted murder. ...Read more

Relatives of Desmonte Leonard, a man who was convicted of killing three people at a party in Auburn, are pleading with jurors to spare him from execution.
Shahara Leonard, Desmonte Leonard’s sister, testified that she and other relatives stand behind her 24-year-old brother.

Two brothers were charged with attempted murder for stabbing a victim and leaving him on the side of the road.
Andrew Ingram, 25, got into an argument with the victim at Brookhaven Apartments Tuesday night, police said.
Ingram and his brother, Durand, 40, later allegedly attacked the victim on the side of the road and left him with several stab wounds. However, the victim's injuries are not life threatening.
University of Alabama student Daniel Evan Simmons is charged with with making a terrorist threat. The 19-year-old was arrested by the University of Alabama Police Department, and the charges stem from an investigation into a threat targeting members of the University's greek system. The threat was made via YouTube. But, Simmons is not believed to be directly connected with the initial intimidating post that was sent on Sunday night, Sept. 21st.
