Student's Body Found

BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. (WVUA) - Allysa Huffstutler's uncle confirmed to WVUA that she has been found dead in the Locust Fork branch of the Black Warrior River. 

Blount County EMA Director Max Armstrong said that the State Trooper helicopter spotted Huffstutler's body a mile from where the accident happened.

Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington is planning to hold a press conference early Friday afternoon to release details.

We do know that the American Red Cross is providing counselors near the accident site to help the family deal with the tragedy. ...Read more

COKER, Ala. -- According to Chief Deputy Ron Abernathy with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department, the third runaway suspect is in custody after a brief pursuit. Now, all three initially sought after suspects are in custody. Two males and one female. Earlier today, WVUA crews responded to an area on the corner of Highway 140 and Falls Cut off Road

TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WVUA) - WVUA has confirmed through a source with the United Mine Workers of America that a miner was killed Thursday night.

The accident happened around 6:15 Thursday evening underground at Jim Walter Mine No. 7 West Portal.

The victim is 36 year old, Christopher Brown, of Pleasant Grove, a five year veteran of the mine. ...Read more

WATERTOWN, Mass. (AP) - Boston Police say a 19-year-old college student wanted in the Boston Marathon bombings is in custody after a manhunt that left the city virtually paralyzed and his older brother and accomplice dead.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say there has been one reported fatality and several injuries from a tornado that hit Kemper County.

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spokesman Greg Flynn says the fatality was reported to have happened west-northwest of DeKalb, near Mississippi Highway 493.

Flynn says the tornado hit Kemper and Noxubee counties before pushing into Alabama.

He says there are reports of damaged buildings and many power outages in the area. ...Read more

TUSCAOOLSA, Ala. (WVUA) - Storms across Alabama and the Southeast today have left residents cleaning up, including a tornado killing one in east Mississippi.

The worst of the damage in West Alabama is likely in the Pickens County community of Macedonia.

Local residents are cleaning up after an early afternoon storm caused minor structure damage off County Road 75.

Dozens of trees and power lines were toppled as a result of the high winds.
